South Bend Foodies

WELCOME FOODIES!
LOCALS KNOW BEST so begin the Local Foodie Revolution

South Bend Foodies believes that a vibrant, independent restaurant community makes South Bend and Michiana a better place to live. A vibrant local restaurant community increases a city’s culinary and cultural strength. Local restaurants ensure that this local flavor is introduced to visitors and those new to our community. Finding a local owned business to dine or drink in is no longer difficult!  Here and our social media areas you can find out about the many amazing locally owned businesses in our community.  We don't do any chains here just local independent businesses.  So pile your plate up on our website and remember to KEEP SOUTH BEND UNIQUE: eat drink local!!!

Quick update: As of February 21, 2012 it was decided that we would begin a sister chapter to South Bend Foodies.  I would like to officially introduce ELKHART FOODIES to each of you!!  At this time, they are only on Facebook but we plan on a website for them or perhaps in the beginning adding them to this page.  It is in development but we as citizens who care about our local food community hope you will like them if you are also on Facebook.

"WHAT'S FOR DINNER??"
What's for Dinner? is continuing in 2012!  Here are the first quarter dates.  Restaurants will be announced as decisions are made and you will have enough time to plan to attend.  If you would like to learn more about our monthly dinners and what they are about check out this link!  What's for Dinner? Description

OUR MARCH 14th Dinner is ANNOUNCED!!!
It is that time again foodies!! We are ready for our March 14th, yes that is a Wednesday, What's for Dinner?!!! We are doing a Wednesday because this special restaurant is not open on Monday or Tuesday and I want you to be able to say that you dined at the oldest Italian restaurant in South Bend.

Sunny Italy Cafe opened their doors in 1926 in an area called "Little Italy." The family grew up in the local are and were known in the area for years.  Most importantly,  they are still in their original location. The Bamber's purchased the restaurant in 1940 from another family member and bada-bing it is still run and owned by a Bamber.

You will meet Sis Bamber at our dinner and hear of her love and memories of cooking with her family. You will want to soak up the years of cooking that Sis has learned and the love that comes through her cooking. This is original, authentic and magnifico! Capiche?

I have looked the menu over and feel that ordering off it is the best way to go. The family style was too limited and you know foodies! You want to experience it all!! So here is the menu linkhttp://sunnyitalycafe.com/tools/pdf/Sunny%20Italy%20Menu0508.pdf Notice that nearly all entrees offer salad and hot bread.

So get your mob in order and let me know the who's and have nots for this W4D? Make sure when you RSVP you show up or we will send someone packing for you!!

As usual , we will meet at 5:45pm and seating will be at 6pm.  There is no bar at the restaurant but there plenty nearby if you want to wet your whistle first.

Email Ms. Foodie if you would like to attend.  Please honor your rsvp because this dinner is made special because of you and your committment.  It is our thought that this is liking going to a private dinner at a friends home and people just don't attend and don't call.  Others miss out when we count on you!

Got a tip on a restaurant that you want us to visit, send us an email.   Feel free to contact South Bend Foodies if you have questions!  southbendfoodies@gmail.com

Thank you and Chow!
